Many thanks to all those participated in our Australia Day OnyaWallaby Challenge which was a fundraiser for the RFDS.
Games of OnyaWallaby were played in a wide variety of locations, most of which were in Victoria. Examples included Box Hill, Mallacoota, Traralgon, Inverloch, Mulgrave, Macclesfield, Beechworth and Blinman. If we missed anyone please let us know. Two games were also played near the summit of Victoria’s highest peak. See our picture here at nearby Cleve Cole Hut at Mount Bogong.
Next year we will strive to extend participation to Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory. In the feedback we received it was clear that lots of variations of OnyaWallaby were played on the day.
We would like our government to increase the amount of recognition that our animals, birds and plants get on Australia day. We think this is important because increased awareness of a species should increase support for their conservation. They should also be given more recognition because just like us they are AUSSIES too!
If you agree with the need for increased recognition, you can download and print off one of our A4 flyers below. There are 13 in total so you should be able choose one which suits you. The aim is to encourage others to read it by displaying it in a prominent location.
We are confident that these colourful and thoughtful flyers will provoke healthy discussions on this issue.
A group of Maroondah Bushwalking Club members got together on Australia Day for a game of OnyaWallaby.
The style and time this lackadaisical group of holiday makers played an unorthodox game of Onyawallaby. It would be reasonable to suggest that rules were flexible & breaks were taken to contemplate the warmth of the water for ‘group selfies’ and to appreciate the antics of the visiting RAF Roulettes .But we had fun. The winner was the person who could yell the quickest and the loudest, a quick & fast tempo. Believe it or not the question that stumped the mob was about AFL teams. Obviously study will be required this AFL season.
